Karachi braces for sweltering weather as temperatures soar

Karachi on Wednesday experienced soaring temperatures above May average, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of persistent hot weather ahead, reported.

The PMD’s Early Warning Centre has indicated that air humidity levels are expected to remain elevated in the coming days, exacerbating the heatwave-like conditions.

According to meteorological data, the day saw temperatures peaking at 36.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing the average May temperature in Karachi by 1.1 degrees.

Despite the heat, the PMD stated that the city was spared a full-fledged heatwave, attributing this to winds gusting at 21 km per hour across the metropolis.

Wednesday afternoon witnessed a spike in humidity, reaching 59%, marking a 5% increase from the previous day. Last night, humidity levels soared to 75%, intensifying the perception of extreme heat.

The PMD issued a warning, projecting temperatures to soar beyond 47 degrees Celsius in central Sindh districts over the next few days. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of extreme heat.
